Title: Patent application form "Petition to make special based on age"????
Post by: driverlessSam on January 07, 2019, 07:03:49 PM
I recently filed my first provisional patent application.  I am over 65 years old so I qualified to file the form "Petition to make special based on age", according to the info on the form.
Question:  What, if any, is the advantage of being "special" in the yes of the patent office?

p.s.  Great newsletters and forum.  I used one of your hints - I used the word "embodiment"  :)

Thanks!

Making your application "special" will get you a faster examination.   Usually it takes the patent office 1-2 years before they will exam your case but if your application is special that will move you ahead and often get your case examined in 6 months or less.

*Note this is only for the non-provisional application.  There is really no benefit that I know of for using this process in a provisional application.
