Filing Provisional Patent Application by Snailmail

Filing Provisional Patent Application by Snailmail

Hi Brad-

Thanks for providing this incredibly helpful forum.

Are there drawbacks to filing my Provisional Patent Application by mailing it in through the U.S. Postal Service ?

I have the body of my provisional application ready to go on wordpad, but  I am having a difficult time uploading a photo of my invention drawing to my laptop from my android phone.  Sad to say, I am very computer technique challenged.

Thanks, John T.

Legally there should not be any disadvantage to filing by regular snail mail.   Most people find filing online easier and faster but if you prefer the old fashioned way that should give you the same level of protection.

Just make sure you include a self-addressed postcard that lists the items you are submitting.  Once the patent office receives your package they will stamp your postcard as being received and mail it back to you for your records.
