How to search "patent pending" patent

A product similar to the one I am looking to market is currently listed as patent pending.  Is it possible to search pending patenting details.

It can be tough to track down the actually patent that was filed.   Here is what I would do (in order):

-Look at their marketing material and product sheet (directions, etc.) to see if they list any patent numbers or patent application numbers.  If so, you can use those online to track down their patent applications.

-Search google.com/patents by the company name.  If they have any parent companies or related affilaite companys you can search for those names as well.

-Find out who the owners and creators are of the product or the company.  Search by their full name as "inventors" in the patent search

Usually one of those 3 methods will work.  If not, chances are they have only filed for a provisional patent application in which case nothing will turn up in your search because provisional applications are not published.
