Patent Questions and Advice / Wording/ Terminology # 1 (for claims)
« on: October 09, 2017, 10:05:37 AM »
How could i word this? Or what terminology should i use to have the correct definition that satisfies the patent office, or at lest will support my claims in the future so that I can turn my PPA into a real patent.

I'm making a product that displays a symbol that is lit up... This will be acheived from by making a housing in the shape of a cube that will contain a light inside that shines on one of the walls, which is clear, that contains an emblem or symbol on it to make it look like the symbol is lit up.
What do I call the cube or ''housing'', and clear wall will be removable so one can change the symbol on it.
Could I say assembly? If so what would i say. Lighting assembly? Symbol assembly.

Also there will be a frame that holds a set (3) of these lights... What do I call the frame?
I dont know of any product that i can refer to so i can steal some terminology

Is there a website I can use to look up terminology that is used for patents?

Patent Questions and Advice / Regarding the small details of my invention
« on: October 03, 2017, 09:58:01 AM »
I have a quesition regarding the small details of my invention. So i have decided to go with a certain method of attaching a light to my invention, it needs to be a quick detach/attach method. If this is not the best way due to manufacturing purposes, can i change it later or rather submit another PPA. I dont know of many more ways to attach the light but im sure there are many different methods of attaching it.
Is it going to be problematic down the road if i dont figure out which method is best now and put it in my ppa?
Im hoing as long as i show that it needs to be a quick or easily changeable light that I will still have full coverage in the ppa.

Awesome, thanks Brad. You really do know it all.

My invention serves as a safety device by using lights to warn people. Its also a communication device. Main priority is how it looks, how its used, where it used, and why its used. Sorry to be so vague, hard to explain it without giving it away. Let me know if you need more details

In my patent i have described its function and its features in great detail. The technology to make it work would not be complicated at all. So since its not a design patent and the design of the electrical parts is not what makes it unique, is it necessary to provide an electrical diagram and detail on how it will work technically/electrically?

If i don't have the info what am i loosing out on? Also I am licencing my idea so maybe when or if I get some serious talk from companies I could invest more money and file an additional PPA that includes the wiring  information... before letting them see the PPA.
I just dont wanna spend a lot of cash flow if A) I dont have to B) I might not even get any companies that wanna sell it.

Thanks a lot brad. I was starting too see patterns, even with the patents that were unrelated.

Patent Questions and Advice / Writing A PPA... Using Prior Art Wording
« on: September 30, 2017, 03:31:34 PM »
Hellow fellow patentors.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
So I am writing a Provisional Patent Application. I am getting very far along. I want to do as much as possible by myself to save on the attorney's Fee.
My question is can I  copy and paste some sentences that are in prior art?
I don't want to copy and past entire paragraphs. Just a couple sentences.
I don't want to infringe on anyone else's ideas, just their fancy wording.
One of the patents is expired, another is not, and another is not even a patent.
Will anyone notice, more importantly is it illegal
Also since i'm only writing a provisional it will be rewritten anyway after I find someone to licence my product to.
