What is the differences between a design patent and a utility patent

Hi

Can you tell me what type of patent this is? Is it a utility patent or design patent?

The date of patent is April 7, 2001
How long does a patent last, I find different answers on the internet?
I was interested in the way the can was mounted in the patent.
I would like to use that mounting design..
How can i find out if im able to use that can mount design?

Thank you for your help..

The patent you found was a "utility" patent.   Design patents have a patent number that start with a "D".

According to Google that patent is still active
https://patents.google.com/patent/US6216925B1/en

Patents usually last for 20 years from the date they were filed, however, if people don't pay the fees every 3.5 years the patent can go abandoned and then it would be free for people to use.
